THE FUTURE HIGH COMMISSIONER

Fare welled By Labour Party TRIBUTE TO MR JORDAN (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, June 11. The future High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, Mr W. J. Jordan, M.P. for Manukau, was farewelled by members of the Government Party at a caucus this evening, after the House of Representatives had adjourned for the mid-winter recess. Mr Jordan will be leaving New Zealand before the House resumes on July 21 to represent the Dominion at the Assembly of the League of Nations at Geneva in Sep tember. At that meeting New Zealand is likely to be elected to a seat on the League Council and Mr Jordan, before he takes up the High Commissionership at the end of the year, will be the Dominion’s representative on the Council.

The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon M. J. Savage) and other members of the Government paid a tribute to Mr Jordan’s services as a member of the Parliamentary Labour Party for many years, and as the senior Government Whip during the present session. A presentation of travelling bags was made to Mr Jordan and an envelope, with a substantial cheque enclosed, was given to Mrs Jordan. The question of Mr Jordan’s status before he assumes the High Commissionership is to be determined by Cabinet in the near future.
