SOUTH ISLAND CRUISE
ITINERARY OF THE MAUNGANUI INCLUSION OF BLUFF URGED Reference to the announced tour of South Island waters by the Maunganui was made by the president of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce (Mr J. H. Reed) at yesterday’s meeting. Mr Reed informed members that the shipping committee had had a full discussion on the Maunganui’s itinerary and it had been decided to send the following letter to the Union Steam Ship Company:— “Regarding the southern tour of the s.s. Maunganui, this matter was discussed at a meeting of the shipping committee of this chamber. The chamber congratulates your company on opening up the South Island tourist traffic by the tour of the Maunganui, as arranged for in the coming spring. We would, however, ask your company, in the event of further tours being arranged, to give favourable consideration to tbe inclusion of Bluff as a port of call, in order to give tourists the opportunity of visiting Invercargill and, if so desired, the lakes and other beauty spots of Southland, perhaps rejoining the vessel at a northern port. We would respectfully ask that the matter be referred to the responsible officers whose duty it is to arrange the subsequent trips.” The action of the committee was approved.
