NEW FLYING-BOAT SERVICE
London To Sydney (United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) Sydney, June 10. The Sydnev Morning Herald says that the British Government has definitely decided that a flying-boat service between London and Sydney will be inaugurated as soon as the new fast boats now being built are available. This, it is anticipated, will be within a year from now. The service contemplates sending all first-class mail matter between London and Sydney at ljd a half-ounce without a surcharge. Whether Australian letters to London will be at the rate of 2d a half-ounce or at a surcharge of 4d a half-ounce has yet to be decided by the Commonwealth Government. At the outset there will be two fly-ing-boat services a week between London and Sydney. It is anticipated, however, that within a year of the commencement of that service it will be necessary not only to place larger boats on the route but also to increase the capacity of the boats being used. A direct service from London to Sydney is contemplated, independent of the flying-boat services between London and Calcutta. The British Government proposes a service twice a week between London and Sydney with an extension, as soon as it is practicable, to New Zealand. The British Government has promised to contribute onehalf of the cost of the Sydney-New Zealand service, leaving the balance to be defrayed by the governments of the Commonwealth and New Zealand.
