NO REST FOR CABINET
Midwinter Recess (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, June 10. The adjournment of the House of Representatives for the midwinter recess will bring very little respite to members of Cabinet. Before the Government members finally disperse to their constituencies, there will be a final caucus, at which an outline of the future legislative programme will be announced for the benefit of members. This caucus will probably be held tomorrow or Friday. As the House is to resume definitely on July 21, the Government will have only live weeks in which to prepare its plan of campaign for the second part of the session. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) stated to-night that an early start would have to be made with the preparation of future legislation, and to that end he thought it desirable that Cabinet meetings should be held this week after the adjournment of the House, “I cannot see the recess bringing any period of rest or holiday to members of Cabinet,” Mr Savage said. “We aim to put our full programme into operation at the earliest possible moment, and with that object in view Ministers will probably have to sit round the Cabinet table for the greater part of the recess.”
