Southland Battalion Council. The meeting of the Southland Battalion Council which was held in Central Hall, First Church, on Saturday, was well attended, Mr J. H. Boyd presiding over 14 members, representing trie majority of the companies. It was agreed to support the conference fund to enable the expenses of two delegates to Auckland to be met. Notice was received from headquarters that in future no company would be enrolled unless there were 15 boys on the roll with an average attendance of 10 over the initial six parades. It was decided to commend the management committee on its action. Mr Lambeth’s notice of motion to alter the date of the annual meeting from February to November was carried. A committee of five was appointed to go into the proposed battalion policy as outlined by Mr Clarke. This committee will meet on June 27 and bring forward its recommendation to the next council meeting, which was fixed for Friday evening, July 10. The treasurer, Mr J. McAlister, presented a statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the recent camp, and this showed a credit balance. It was decided to thank all who had assisted in any way towards the success of the camp. The matter of a battalion register was discussed and it was decided that the recording secretary commence the register immediately. Captains are asked to forward recruits’ forms and enrolment forms to Mr Lambeth, who will return them after the desired information has been obtained. Life Boy Business. The enrolment of the 6th Southland (Gore) team was accepted and also the enrolment of a new team connected with First Church, Invercargill. The teams will be known as 2nd Invercargill (Stobo Hall) team and 2nd Invercargill (Sylvan Bank) team. The applications of several new leaders were also received and the leaders were welcomed into the movement. It was agreed to alter the Life Boy annual meeting to November. Permission was granted the area council to form a reserve of Life Boy leaders. Jumble Sale. A jumble Sale is shortly to be held by trie Old Boys’ Football Club in aid of new jerseys. Parcels are to be left witri Mr Clarke in Everybody’s Hall as soon as possible. A 8.8. Broadcast. Last Sunday evening ‘-‘Haversack”
heard an Auckland 8.8. Company giving the children’s service from IYA. Trie boys sang several sacred items and took the reading from St. Matthew’s Gospel, while the chaplain delivered a short talk. This is one way a company can help to further our object. Association Football. The competition for the flag has finished, the end of the second round being played last Saturday. The position is that the following three teams have reached the final games with 8 points each:—3rd Invercargill Company, 2nd Invercargill Company and sth Invercargill Company. The play-off will take place later in the season. On Saturday, June 13, the first round of the Herbert Smith Cup will be played. The draw is:— June 13—Seconds v. Fifths; Thirds a bye. June 20—Fifths v. Thirds; Seconds a bye. June 27—Thirds v. Seconds; Fifths a bye. July 4—Fifths v. Seconds; Thirds a bye. July 11—Thirds v. Fifths; Seconds a bye. July 18—Seconds v. Thirds; Fifths a bye. The Old Boys turned out on Saturday in their new jerseys (royal blue with the 8.8. crest on the left breast). Their game with Rovers proved a good and interesting one, the Old Boys winning by 4 goals to 1. ... The positions of teams in the junior grade is as follows: — Ch.
