SPECIAL TOURS
OVERSEAS VISITORS CUT RATES PERMITTED (United Press Association.) Auckland, May 19. A decision to permit road motor companies and taxi-car companies to carry out at “cut rates” special tours that might be approved from time to time by the proper licensing authority was made this morning by the Central Licensing Authority when Mr J. W. Clarke, Auckland manager of the Government Tourist Bureau, asked that companies engaged to carry cruise ship passengers be exempted from the standard fares fixed by the regulations. These tourists did not belong to the luxury class as the tours were of short duration and covered long distances. They did not compete with private tours. Reduced fares were desirable for officially organize/, trips. The representatives of all the motor companies concerned supported the request. Six cruise ships are to visit New Zealand. The first is the Orion, about October 28, with 1000 tourists. Then will follow at monthly intervals the Strathnaver, the Orford, the Narkunda, the Oronsay and the sixth steamer in March.
