Dipton THE PLUNKET SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING
At the annual meeting of the Dipton sub-branch of the Plunket Society Mrs Murray Menzies presided over a good attendance of members. A letter from the late secretary, Mrs R. McLean, who now resides in Scotland, was read. The election of officers resulted: President, Mrs Murray Menzies (reelected); secretary and treasurer, Miss K. Shand (re-elected); committee, Mesdames G. Reece, W. L. Cunningham, C. McDonald, T. O. McGill, R. Gerrard, R. Palmer, J. Snow, E. W. Harrison and members of previous committee. The nurses’ annual report stated: Visits to district, 27; visits to homes, 66; new babies, 8; attendance at rooms adults 120, babies 101; children, 44; total, 265; advised by letter, 12; advised by telephone, 6. BASKETBALL A successful tournament was held in the Public Hall. Nineteen entries were received. , Mrs George Stewart and Miss Shand were scorers and timekeepers, and Mrs Cassels, Miss Ewen and Messrs R. Reid and M. Kane refereed. After supper a short dance was held, music being supplied by Miss Shand and Messrs Sarginson, Goodyear, Christie and Lindsay. Results:— Women.—First Round: Dipton A. 13 v. Hockey 8; Limehills A 10 v. Mossburn 9; Balfour 7 v. Winton 4; Dipton B 10 v. Lumsden B 9; Lumsden A 11. y. Dipton C 8. Second Round: Limehills A 13 v. Dipton B 6; Limehills B 6 v. Lumsden A 5. Semi-final: Balfour A 7 v. Dipton A 4; Limehills A 8 v. Limehills B 7. Final: Limehills A 15 v. Balfour 5. Men.—First Round: Dipton B 3 y. Limehills 2; Balfour 2 v. Dipton A 1; Mossbum A 6 v. Lumsden 2; Mossbum B 6 v. Dipton C 3. Second Round: Mossburn A 2 v. Dipton B 0; Mossburn B 2 v. Balfour 2. Final: Mossburn A 2 v. Mossburn 81. Members of the Basketball Club entertained Mr and Mrs Stewart at the club court. A friendly match, As v. B’s was played, Mr Stewart acting as referee. On behalf of the club members Mrs Stewart ■ was presented with a flower bowl, Mr Stewart receiving a match case. Mrs Stewart also received presentations from the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union and the Womens Institute. HOCKEY The Dipton women’s hockey team travelled to Athol and defeated Athol by 5 goals to 3. DRAMA GROUP The first meeting of the Drama Group under the Association for Country Education was held in the hall. Mr Worthington was present and outlined the course. Plays were chosen and rehearsals will be commenced next week. Two classes are being held, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Miss K. Shand has been appointed district organizer.
