Riversdale THE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

A GARDEN CIRCLE FORMED At the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute there was a fair attendance. A garden circle was formed, the following office-bearers being elected: President, Mrs T. Campbell; secretary, Mrs H. C. Tayles; committee, Mesdames Ibbotson, Mortimer, Matthews, Shea, Butler, Kerr and O’Brien and Miss Ballock. Mrs Bannerman and Miss Woods reported having visited sick members during the month. Mesdames Newlands and Shea were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. Mrs Campbell and Miss Paterson were appointed to attend to the monument grounds during the month. The following members were appointed hostesses for the birthday afternoon: Mesdames Clearwater, Kingsbury, Denniston, Campbell, McLean, Mortimer and Butler. Mrs Neale gave a demonstration on pastry-making. Items were contributed during the afternoon by Miss P. Windle (pianoforte solo) and Miss Woods (vocal solo). Euchre Tournament. The last of a series of euchre tournaments in aid of the Oddfellows’ Lodge funds was held in the Drill Hall on Saturday night. The following were the prize-win-ners.—Women: Mrs W. Miller 1, Miss M. White 2. Men: Messrs R. Bannerman 1, H. C. Tayles 2. The prizes for the evening were donated by Messrs L. and D. Miller. Miss F. Denniston and Mr A. Henderson won the aggregate prizes, which were donated by the Past Grands of the lodge.
