Girls' High School
OLD GIRLS’ ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL REUNION DINNER. Some one hundred and forty members of the Southland Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association attended the annual reunion dinner held in the Federal banquet hall on Saturday evening. The president, Mrs J. S. Robbie, acted as hostess and received the guests. After proposing the loyal toast, the president welcomed the representatives of kindred associations and reviewed the activities of the association during the past year. Reference was made tc the death of Mrs G. J.- Johnston, Nightcaps, first dux of the school, who had died since the last dinner. The opportunity was taken to congratulate Mrs J. N. Armour, patroness of the association, on her recent appointment to the High Schools Board o f Governors. The toast to the school and staff was proposed by Miss G. McKenzie and was replied to by the principal, Miss A. Eastwood. Miss J. Lamont proposed the toast of “Absent Friends,” which was responded to by letter from Miss M. McKie. “Kindred Associations” was proposed by Miss I. Mitchell and was replied to by Miss Mahoney (St. Catherine’s Old Girls Association), Mrs A. V. Osmond (St. John’s Old Girls’ Association), Miss King (Technical ExStudents’ Association) and Miss _F. Watts (St. Hilda’s Old Girls’ Association). Mrs Stanley Brown, representing the National Council of Women, spoke on behalf of that movement. At intervals during the toast list the following items were given: Song, Mrs R. Barnsdale; community singing, conducted by Miss M. Crofts; dialogue, Miss J. Pack and Miss A. Pollok; violin solos, Miss J. Pritchard. Miss Mary Gilbert was accompaniste. A telegram conveying good wishes for the success of the function was read from Miss J. Bisset. Dunedin.
