Mataura PLUNKET SOCIETY
QUARTERLY MEETING (From Our Correspondent.) At the quarterly meeting of the executive of the Mataura branch of the Plunket Society Mrs T. G. Boyd presided. Mesdames G. Robson, S. E. Smith, J. Buchanan, W. Buchanan, C. H. Hargest, R. Hutton and A, N. MacGibbon were also present. Mrs Boyd stated that the 21st birthday of the Mataura sub-branch would take place this year and would be appropriately celebrated. It was announced that Miss Fitzgibbon, Director of Plunket Nursing, had consented to be present for the occasion. Women's Division. Mrs Wallace presided at the monthly meeting of the Brydone branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Members joined with the Brydone branch of the Farmers’ Union in a social hour. The competitions, “Shop naming” and “A list of things our grandmothers did without” were won by Mrs Coker and Miss Taylor. Women’s Hockey Club. At the annual meeting of the Mataura Women’s Hockey Club Mr J. W. Aitken presided. The annual report (already published) and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr H. L. Dolamore (Dunedin); president, Mr A. Marshall; vice-pre-sidents, Drs Woodhouse and W. Grove, Messrs J. H. Clark. J. Hart and A. E. Barnes; secretary, Mrs R. Smith; trustees, Mrs C. D. Taylor and Miss H. Speden; committee, Misses R. Coster, Marion Maley, W. Duncan, M. Adam and D. Johnston and Mesdames Maley and Taylor; delegates to Eastern Southland Association, Mesdames Smith and Taylor, the club captain and Miss Adam; selectors, club and team captains; coach, Mrs Maley. The following new members were elected: —Misses B. Maskill, D. Johnstone, E. Webb, C. Johnstone and J. McDonald. Opening day was fixed for April 18. The delegates were instructed to advise the association that two teams would be entered in the competitions. Young Farmers’ Club. Tire annual meeting of the Mataura Young Farmers’ Club was well attended. Mr James K. Glover presided. In presenting the annual report the secretary stated that all meetings had been fairly well attended and lectures had been given by the following: Messrs W. Pierson (Early symptoms, ages of horses and bone diseases), W. Faithful (ryegrass), G. Holford (cultivation of grasslands) and W. R. Harris (potash). The membership stood at 29, 21 active and nine honorary members. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr V. Dickie; secretary, Mr K Brewster; treasurer, Mr Allan Scott.
