HARVARD UNIVERSITY

HANDSOME CHRISTMAS GIFT. MR T. LAMONT’S DONATION. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 9.5 p.m.) New York, Dec. 25. The usual Christmas gift was given to Harvard University to-day with a donation of 500,000 dollars by Mr Thomas Lamont, a partner in the J. P. Morgan Company, to the 300th anniversary fund of the institution for the engagement of a “scholar preeminent in the field of political economy.” Mr Lamont made an interesting observation on the teaching of economics. He deprecates the division along conservative and radical lines and commends “those principles which take into account the experiences of the past and at the same time are alive to the needs and aspirations of the present.”
