KENNINGTON NOTES

SUNDAY SCHOOL BREAK-UP. (From Our Correspondent.) The local church was well filled on Sunday evening when the Sunday School break-up and distribution of prizes was held. The Rev. Thomson occupied the pulpit and addressed the children shortly on the meaning of Christmas. During the service the junior children sang the carol “Away in a Manger” and the senior children “Holy Night Silent Night.” At the conclusion of the service the Rev. Thomson distributed the prizes. The following is the prize list.— Juniors (teacher Miss Budd). — George Alexander, Alison McQueen, Marjorie Horder, Jimmie Miller, George Goodsir, Shirley Matheson, Phyllis Cloughley, Tommy Alexander, Owen Stevens, Clive Stevens, Sylvia Moncur, Margaret Henderson, Mary Mcßeth, Keith Ewart, lan Patterson, Royal Shields, Marjorie Shields, Nola Mills, Jimmie Mills. Intermediate (teacher Miss Graham). —Marjorie Wyeth (full attendance), Joyce Burgess, Joan Burgess, Barbara Horder, Sybil Stevens, Melva Cook, May Henderson, Gwenda Wyeth. Senior girls (teacher Mr Thomson). —Patricia Wyeth (full attendance), Jamie Wyeth, Helen Horder, Elvina Burgess, Arril McQueen (full attendance), Nellie Miller, Gladys Cook. Senior boys (teacher Mr G. Kerr). — Alex Peters, James Waddell, Brian Wyeth, Roy Mills, Len Mills, Ray Shields, Reginald Shields. Bridge Improvements. The bridges on the Kennington, Waimatua road are being widened and replaced by heavier timber by the County Council’s bridge gang. The one at the end of the Oteramika road has already been finished and will make this comer much less dangerous to negotiate as the bridge is right on the corner and has been the scene of accidents with cars crashing through the side railings. With the bridge now some three feet wider than before and rail-guards placed along each side of the bridge, the danger of any accident occurring, except for a carelss driver, should now be removed.
