ESCAPE FROM HOLD-UP
BOOKMAKER ATTACKED. MELBOURNE BANDITS. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Melbourne, December 19. Masked bandits fired on a car driven by Francis O’Connor, a bookmaker, after he had escaped an attempted hold-up. A bullet pierced the door and lodged in the seat upholstery close to Aubrey Parkinson, a jockey, who was travelling with O’Connor. An hour later O’Connor’s hotel was telephoned and a voice said: “Tell O’Connor he was lucky to-night. He will not be so lucky next time.” This is the second occasion on which O’Connor has foiled hold-up men. He was wounded I°"* time.
