GREAT PERFORMANCE

HAWKES BAY FRIESIAN’S RECORD A remarkable record for production and re-production has been established by the pedigree Friesian cow, Paepaetahi Michaelmas Rosebud, bred and owned by A. F. Perkins, Taradale, Hawkes Bay, says a North Island writer. This six-year-old cow has had four calves and produced over 9001 b fat within a period of just over thirteen months. Paepaetahi Michaelmas Rosebud, after dropping twin calves on October 22. 1934, produced on C.O.R. test 22,815.9 lbs milk and 900.431bs fat, with an average test of 3.94 per cent., during the following 365 days, and then had twin calves again on November 26, 1935. As she milked right up to within a few days of the latter calving, Rosebud’s total production for the lactaton period would be considerably in excess of the 9001 b mark. This performance is still more meritorious than it appears as the period between Paepaetahi Michaelmas Rosebud’s freshening for the two seasons prior to her first set of twins was only ten months in each case, which means that Mr Perkin’s cow has had six calves within 2f years. Not only has Paepaetahi Michaelmas Rosebud excelled in production and reproduction, but she has also a great show-ring record. The high standard of her type is shown by the fact that although she had just completed her 9001bs record the day before the Show, she was placed second in the class for mature cows in milk at the recent Royal Show at Hastings. Besides setting up what is undoubtedly a record for the Dominion for combined production and re-pi’oduction in a season, Paepaetahi Michaelmas

Rosebud, with her yield of 900.431bs fat, has also established a new record for butterfat production for pedigree Friesian cows C.O.R. tested in Hawkes Bay. This new record was made by most consistent production.
