TIMARU WOOL SALE EXPECTATIONS EXCEEDED KEEN BIDDING (Per United Press Association.) Timaru, December 16. The first Timaru wool sale of the season was held at Timaru to-day and the prices realized exceeded expectations. The sale was a buoyant one, with a substantial increase in the prices on those ruling last year. Owing to the favourable weather conditions during the last fortnight, more than the usual quantity of wool was offered to a full bench of buyers who operated with exceptional keenness. It was noticeable that owing to the dry winter, a proportion of hogget wool carried a quantity of dust. The total quantity offered was 12,566 bales and practically a complete clearance was effected. SYDNEY SALES MARKET VERY FIRM. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 10.55 p.m.) Sydney. December 16. At the wool sales 12,115 bales were offered and 11,042 sold, 1896 being sold privately. There was strong competition from all sections and the market ruled very firm for all descriptions. Special attention was given to deep-grown spinning wool in the better class clips. Greasy Merino made to 221 d. The average price last week was £l7 12/3 a bale or 14£d a pound.
