QUEEN CARNIVAL

GORE CELEBRATIONS CORONATION CEREMONY The coronation ceremony of Princess Kathleen O’Connor (Gore and Celtic Cricket Clubs and St. Patrick’s Tennis Club) as Queen of the Gore Combined Sports Queen Carnival, was performed in the Princess Theatre, Gore, last evening when a large crowd attended. The function was the culminating event to the sports carnival launched two months ago on behalf of ten Gore sports clubs, which were divided into four groups. By the efforts of these groups the satisfactory sum of approximately £lOOO has been raised. The coronation itself was a fitting finale to the carnival and, carried out in a spectacular fashion, proved eminently successful. The grand procession to the theatre brought the Queen-Elect and her retinue in the following order: Trumpeters, Miss Winnie Gerken, Miss Ivy Stark; Armed Guard, Corporal R. Tutty, Private R. Cross, Private K. Chisholm, Private S. Jaffray, Private N. Newman; Lord Chamberlain, Mr W. D. Shelton; Master of Ceremonies, Mr E. Eastwood; Standard Bearer, Miss Mamie Ferris; Bearer of Queen’s Bouquet, Miss Denise Shelton; Princess Betty, Miss Betty Edwards; Pages, Miss Katharine Pierson, Master David Price; Ladies-in-Waiting, Miss Mavis Anderson, Miss Jessie Paterson; Princess Kath, Miss Kath Kirk; Pages, Miss Lindsay Bannerman, Miss Dawn Taylor; Ladies-in-Waiting, Miss Barbara Oswin, Miss Margaret Boult; Princess Isobel, Miss Isobel Graham; Pages, Master Graham Taylor, Master Brian Scobie; Ladies-in-Waiting, Miss Peggy Crawford, Miss Heather Robertson; Bearer of Crown, Miss Thelma Sinclair; Bearer of Orb and Sceptre, Miss Hilda Mclntosh; Bearer of Sword, Miss Janie Mclntosh; Lord High Chancellor, Mr A. H. Smith; Bearer of Scrolls, Master Jack O’Sullivan; Queen’s Guard, Corporal S. Cross, Private K. Martin; Princess Kathleen (Queen Elect), Miss Kathleen O’Connor; Pages, Miss Ngarie Cunningham, Miss Marie O’Sullivan, Miss Una Forbes; Ladies-in-Waiting, Miss Eileen Graham, Miss Lena Bates; Mistress of the Robes, Mrs J. P. O’Sullivan. The oath was administered to the Queen-Eelect, Miss Kathleen O’Connor, by the Lord Chamberlain (Mr W. D. Shelton). The Lord High Chancellor (Mr A. H. Smith) then performed the crowning ceremony, and in a happy enthroning speech wished her a joyous reign. The presentation of Princesses Betty, Kath and Isobel was then performed by Mistress of Robes (Mrs J. P. O’Sullivan). Prominent officials concerned in the successful result of the carnival were then honoured by the Queen, the bestowal of these honours causing considerable amusement. The coronation ceremony was produced by Mrs J. P. O’Sullivan, Mr O’Sullivan acting as stage manager The entertainment concluded with a grand ball in the Theatre Royal, there being a large crowd present.
