The Page’s Birthday
—Very Highly Commended— Very soon in the month of December, The “Little Southlanders’ ” page will be 11 years old. During this time parties, plays, and bazaars have been held. Every year, just before Christmas the “Little Southlanders,” or cousins of the page, headed by Cousin Betty, go to the hospital and every patient in the institution gets a gift, some fruit, and the men also get cigarettes. Besides this, the cousins who have worked the best during the year, get prizes given to them. These are usually given out by the Mayor of Invercargill. The page itself contains many interesting things, such as stories, poems and drawings. We are also given puzzles to do. The cousins who write the best stories and poems and do the best drawings, get a prize each week. If you write a letter to our leader, Cousin Betty, and give a pen-name, she will welcome you to the page. So I’m sure we all wish the page “many happy returns,” on its coming birthday. —4 marks to Cousin Lilian Todd (15), Toa P.Q,
