TRIALS UNDER WAY

SUBTERRANEAN CLOVER FOR LIGHT LANDS The possibilities of subterranean clover, particularly for light land areas and foothill sunny faces that have become bare, are at present being investigated by the Farm Advisory Service connected with Lincoln College. Two trials are being conducted at present with subterranean clover surface sown on poor bare pastures, reports the StarSun. One trial is on medium land, and in this case a mixture of the subterranean with ryegrass and other clovers was used. The other is on light land, and here the clover was sown alone over an old browntop and danthonia sward. Both lots were sown down early in September under reasonably favourable rainfall and ground conditions. Grazing, haying and visual observations and records will be made.
