SWIMMING

LIFE-SAVING EXAMINATIONS.

RESULTS ANNOUNCED.

Several candidates for the awards of the Royal Life-Saving Society were examined at the Municipal Baths last evening by the president of the Southland Swimming Centre (Mr A. Kingsland). They belonged to a class which has been instructed by Mr O. G. Davis. The candidates were mostly pupils of the Southland Boys’ High School and the Southland Technical College, an encouraging indication for the future of life-saving in Southland. The judge expressed himself as satisfied with the quality of the work, saying it was satisfactory throughout. Following were the awards:— Bronze medallion and intermediate certificate —E. P. Sopp, R. J. Glennie, R. W. Boyens, A. C. Millar, D. C. Berry, K. F. Shaw, A. J. Melhop, A. J. Macgregor and M. D. Thompson. Bronze medallion—P. R. H. Hewat and A. M. Aitken. Intermediate certificate—A. T. Mair.
