Miss Rose Hinchey, Gala street, returned during the week from a visit to Queenstown and Half-Way Bay. Miss Edith Macdonald, Don street, who accompanied Miss Hinchey, returns today.. Guests at the Grand Hotel during the week included Mr and Mrs L. McCready (Ottawa, Canada), Mr Justice Johnston and Mrs Johnston (Wellington), Mrs O. H. Bums (Christchurch) and Mrs Vera Empson (Sydney). Hostesses who have entertained in honour of Miss Mollie Hoyles, Herbert street, who is shortly to be married, include Mrs M. M. Macdonald, Ketvin Road, Mrs A. V. Osmond, Lousa street, and Miss M. Girdler, Beatrice street. The St. John’s Girls School Old Girls’ Association will hold its annual bazaar at the school on Wednesday afternoon followed by the annual dinner in the evening. The bazaar will open at 230 p.m. and the dinner will start at 6.30 p.m. 9/11/35. Recent guests at Hotel Deschler included the Rev. Mr Law and Mrs Law, Miss I. Mrs Eustace Russell, Herbert street, and her sister, Miss Frances Nurse, arrive in Wellington on Monday by the Monowai from Sydney, where they were the guests of Sir Henry and Lady Braddon after a visit to England, where they spent some time with Mrs Russell’s daughter, Mrs Leslie Fulcher, Blackheath, London. On the journey south, Mrs Russell, who arrives in Invergargill on Wednesday, will be accompanied as far as Christchurch by Miss Nurse, who will remain there as the guest of her sister, Mrs F. E. Berndtson, Wroxton Terrace. The Duchess of Kent has accepted the office of Lady Superintendent-in-Chief for the St. John Ambulance Association in Wales. In this capacity her Royal Highness has indicated her willingness to be associated with the work of the order within the principality. The office was formerly held by the Dowager Countess of Plymouth, who shared the deep interest taken by the late Earl of Plymouth in the work of the Priory for Wales, of which he was the first Sub-Prior, in addition to holding the office of Sub-Prior of the Grand Priory.
