ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES
CYCLIST FATALLY INJURED. (Per United Press Association.) Hokitika, November 7.’ A youth, Thomas Hargreaves, while cycling to Ross last night was struck by a motor lorry driven by George Searle of Harihari. He was removed to the Westland Hospital but died at midnight. His father and a sister were also cycling with the deceased. INQUEST INTO DOUBLE TRAGEDY. (Per United Press Association.) Taumarunui, November 7. At the inquest to-day before the Coroner, Mr A. S. Laird, concerning the deaths of George Sawyer Robson, aged 14, known as Hori Hori Rapihana, and Trevor Dean, aged six, who were found dead beside the Opunui Stream on October 13 with gunshot wounds in their heads, the evidence showed that Robson, who took a gun from the house without permission, had a mania for firearms and had on several occasions pointed a gun at neighbours and his father-in-law, with whom he lived, in fun. The gun was very defective. The Coroner concluded that deceased Robson pointed the gun at deceased, Trevor Dean, and it accidentally discharged. Alarmed at what he had done and in fear of the consequence, Robson then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. A verdict was returned accordingly.
