NORTH AND SOUTH ISLANDS. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, November 7. A Gazette issued to-night shows that the population of New Zealand proper (including Maoris) at September 30 last was as follows: — Males Females Total. 795,847 766,282 1,562,129 Excluding Maoris, the figures were:— Males Females. Total. 756,527 730,178 1.486,705 The Maori population was as follows: Males. Females. Total. 39,320 36,104 75,424 The population of the two islands was as follows: — Including Maoris. North 1,012,221 South 549,908 Excluding Maoris. North 940,018 South 546,687 During the quarter ended September 30 last the population of New Zealand proper showed an increase of 3183 compared with an increase of 2824 for .the corresponding quarter of 1934. The population of Cook Islands, Niue, etc., at March 31, was 16,203; that of the Tokelau Islands at August 1 was 1198; and that of the mandated territory of Western Samoa at June 30 was 53,790.
