GENERAL NOTES. The Union Company’s steamer Waimarino arrived at Bluff from Dunedin late yesterday afternoon. She works general cargo and sails to return to Dunedin on completion. The steamer Nolisement arrived shortly after midnight from Seychelles Islands. She begins discharge of the Southland portion of her cargo of guano this morning and will be at Bluff for some time before sailing to discharge at Dunedin. The Wainui leaves Wellington at 6 p.m. to-day for Bluff direct. She is due here on Sunday and sails on Monday for Dunedin.

The Marama was to leave Melbourne at 10 a.m. yesterday for Bluff. She is due here on Monday. The Karetu now leaves Sydney on November 13 for Bluff. She is due on the 17th and sails the next day for Dunedin. Canadian National Steamships have received cabled advice that the Canadian Highlander left Montreal on November 1 for Auckland, Wellington and Australia. She is due at Auckland on December 11. The steamer Nemea has replaced the Yeifuku Maru from Japan to New Zealand with sulphur. She is due at Auckland about November 16. The Rotorua which left London on September 27 for Wellington, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and Bluff, arrived at Suva on Monday. She is now due at Auckland on November 14 to land passengers only. A. H. Turnbull and Co., Ltd., advise that the auxiliary scow Ngahau has been chartered to replace the Kohal in the Welling-ton-Nelson-Golden Bay service, while that vessel lays up for overhaul.

PERSONAL. Captain A. Russell has taken command of the Poolta. relieving Captain C. Sharpe, who has transferred to the Tamahine, relieving Captain R. M. Kane for holidays. Captain J. L. Brisco, of the Omana, and Captain A. F. Inman, of the Kartigi, have exchanged commands. Captain E. Evans has resumed command of the Taroona at Melbourne, relieving Captain R. Huntly for holidays. The Tees sailed from Lyttelton last Saturday afternoon for the Chatham Islands, taking the following passengers:—Misses M. Idiens and A. Rua, Nurse Orbell, Mrs Pomare, the Rev. Mr Hopkins. Messrs F.
