OREPUKI NOTES
PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE. (From Our Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Orepuki and District Progressive League was held in the Athenaeum on Tuesday evening, Mr J. Falska presiding. A deputation from the dairy factory was heard in connection with the running of whey and wash through the town drain. This matter has been brought up at several annual meetings but although receiving discussion, nothing tangible has resulted. This drain runs to the sea, its outlet being adjacent to the road giving access to the beach and in summer time during the hot weather there is a very objectionable stench emanating from the drain. With the idea of overcoming this the deputation along with representatives from the league, decided to meet the engineer of the Wallace County, and the member of the riding on Saturday when recommendations will be placed before the latter. Evening Sports. The first evening sports meeting o£ the Orepuki Athletic Club’s 1935-36 season was held on Wednesday evening. The night was showery and very cold, a cold westerly wind making conditions very unpleasant. The track was very heavy. These conditions militated against big fields, several runners not braving the elements, nevertheless the events were interesting for an opening night. Five events were decided the following being the results:—7s Yards: J. Gillan 7yds 1, R. F. Pickering 62yds 2, A. McPherson syds 3. 100 Yards: J. Gillan 7yds 1, R. F. Picekring 61yds 2, A. McPherson GJyds 3. 220 Yards: A. McPherson 9yds 1, R. F. Pickering lOJyds 2, J. Gillan 11yds 3. Half-Mile Cycle: H. Braid 40yds 1, J. Halford 100yds 2, P. Smith 30yds 3. One Mile Cycle: H. After the meeting she proceeds to New Plymouth to visit relations. Mrs E. Adamson has returned from Dunedin where she was visiting her sister. Miss Eileen Bulman was the guest of her sister, Mrs N. McNay for the week-end. Miss P. Pennington, of the staff of the Orepuki School, is at present off duty ill. Her many friends wish her a speedy recovery. Miss Mclsaacs is at present relieving. , Mr D.
