ARMISTICE DAY
INVERCARGILL CELEBRATIONS.
Next Monday, Armistice Day, commemorates the seventeenth anniversary of the signing of the armistice by Germany. Church bells will be tolled for the five minutes preceding the striking of 11 o’clock as a reminder to citizens to observe the customary two minutes of silence at that hour. At ten minutes to 11 on Monday morning returned soldiers will assemble at the War Memorial. A short address will be delivered and the “Last Post” and “Reveille” will be sounded. A wreath will be laid at the memorial by the president of the Invercargill Returned Soldiers’ Association (Mr W. R. Mabson). His Worship the Mayor (Mr John Miller) will attend the function in his official capacity and will place a wreath from the Mayor, councillors and the city at the base of the memorial. Buglers from the Southland Technical College will sound a call at 11 a.m. and at 11.2 a.m. at St. John’s Church, the South African War Memorial and at the corner of Dee and Yarrow streets.
