NEW AGREEMENT

POWER BOARD AND COUNCIL. CONFERENCE ARRANGED. The Trading Committee of the Invercargill City Council will meet the Southland Power Board next Monday to discuss matters of interest to both parties, particularly in regard to the proposed new agreement for the supply of electricity to the city. The Trading Committee reported to the council last evening that it had received the following letter from the power board in reply to the council's request to promptly supply information as to the conditions and rates the board would be prepared to supply, the council’s requirements for electricity for a term of years. The following is a copy of the reply received from the power board: “The request of the council was considered by the members of the board. The board affirms that it will be pleased to negotiate in regard to the terms and conditions of the proposed new agreement, but unfortunately the delays being experienced in the progress of the negotiations with the Government make it difficult for the board at the present stage to furnish the council with the desired information. With a view to bringing about a better understanding of the difficulties and to co-ordinate as far as possible the interests of both parties, the board resolved to invite the Trading Committee of the council to meet the full board at a suitable date to be arranged. The date most convenient to the members of the board is Monday, November 11, at 10.30 a.m., the meeting place to be the board’s offices, Dee Street. If the suggestion meets with the approval of the council and the date is acceptable I should like to have your confirmation as soon as possible.” After some discussion on the point whether the committee or the whole council should meet the board, it was decided that any councillors in addition to members of the Trading Committee could attend if they so wished.
