Letter to Kitty
My dear Kitty, Since last I wrote to you I’ve collected some news which I’m sure will interest you. It’s high time you know, that we all had our summer clothes, some of them anyway, for suddenly a hot day will come, or we’ll be asked to a reception and we’ll have nothing but last winter’s coat and a rather tired looking spring suit to choose from. Difficult, you’ll agree; well for your benefit I’m going to pass on to you some gossip about the film stars and their summer clothes. Summer means smartness in Hollywood, you know, and an important part in the film fashion parade will be played by Loretta Young, leading feminine player in Paramount's “Crusades when she wears a charming costume of navy blue crepe with off-white polka dots. Polka dots are still very popular and navy and white is a fashionable colour combination especially when touches of red are added to it as Loretta does at neck and waist of her costume. She wears with it a sailor hat of the new shiny straw in natural colour faced with navy and showing a sheer navy silk veil. Wendy Barrie wears an exciting evening frock of pink satin. Why is it more dark people don’t follow her example and wear pink in the evening? The skirt is very gored and very, full and bows at the shoulders are reminiscent of childhood hair-ribbons. Very cunning indeed is the clever arrangement of gores which allows the skirt to separate up the centre. Carole Lombard, who is considered one of the smartest women in Hollywood, wears for luncheon in town a summery greyish-beige frock in novelty crepe of which simplicity is the keynote. The neckline is shirred and a narrow leather belt of brown, matching her large straw hat, is worn. That’s an unusual contrast in colours Kit, grey-ish-beige and brown, one would do well to adopt it don’t you think? As ever, JANE.
