CABINET POST
PROPOSED ABOLITION.
MINISTER FOR LEAGUE AFFAIRS.
(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, November 1. The political correspondent of the Manchester Guardian says the Government is proposing to abolish Mr R. A. Eden’s post of Minister for League Affairs after the election, when the Cabinet will be reconstructed, giving him either the War Office or the Secretaryship of the Dominions. The abolition of the post would not imply any change in the Government’s foreign policy or a weakening of the Government’s support for the League. The post has been an anomaly from the beginning, leading to suspicion of divided control. Moreover, it has never seemed likely that a strong foreign Secretary like Sir Samuel Hoare would tolerate it for any length of time. The Government apparently came to the conclusion that the post can now be dropped with benefit to the direction of its foreign policy.
