SIXTY YEARS’ SERVICE

EMPLOYEE OF ANCHOR SHIPPING COMPANY. (Per United Press Association.) Nelson, November 1. It is 60 years ago to-day since Mr William Rogers, general manager and a director of the Anchor Shipping and Foundry Company and chairman of the New Zealand Shipowners’ Federation, commenced work with the Anchor Company. Last evening he was entertained by the directors when Mr G. C. Cock, managing director, in congratulating Mr Rogers said a particularly happy feature was that it was not a parting of the ways. In his younger days Mr Rogers was a purser on the boats trading to the West Coast in the golddigging times. He had had many thrilling experiences in the unformed harbours, including swimming ashore with lines and disentangling ropes from the propellers, being a _ strong swimmer and all-round athlete, including a leading cyclist in the old pennyfarthing cycle days. Mr Rogers has received congratulations from all parts of New Zealand. Mr Rogers is one of the many servants of the Anchor Company who have given over 50 years’ service.
