Diamond Wedding

FORMER INVERCARGILL RESIDENTS. At Woodville on October 20 the diamond wedding was celebrated of Mr and Mrs R. C. Tennent, well-known in many parts of New Zealand. .The festivities were held at the residence of Dr and Mrs P. H. Mules, the latter being their eldest daughter. . Mr and Mrs Terment were married at All Saints’ Church, Nelson, in 1875 by Bishop Souter, assisted by the bride’s uncle, the Rev. Amos Rural Dean of Wairarapa. Mr lennent was educated at Elizabeth College, Guernsey, and came out to blew Zealand with his mother and ffiree brothers in 1864, arriving by the British Empire” the largest sailing vessel that ever visited these shores. His family settled in Nelson, and Mr lennent soon made a name for himselr as a champion amateur athlete. He has the distinction of being the founder of Rugby football in this country. He joined the staff of the Bank of New South Wales in 1865, and he and Mrs Tennent spent their lives in many parts of the Dominion, including Invercargill, where Mr Tennent held the position of manager. In 1930 they decided to live in Woodville and have since resided there. A son of Mr and Mrs Tennent, Dr Alan Tennent, practised for some time in Invercargill before going to Wellington and married Miss Maisie McGregor, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. J. A. McGregor, Mount Linton. Mrs R. N. Todd, Dee street, Avenal, is a relative of Mr and Mrs Tennent and travelled to Woodville for the diamond wedding celebrations.
