Miss Allan is a daughter of Mr and Mrs David Allan, of Wellington, and is a grand-daughter of Mr and Mrs Donald Macdonald, Edendale. She was presented by her mother and wore a picture frock of parchment “point d’esprit” net and carried a bouquet of cream and golden roses. Mrs Catherine Macdonald-Bu-chanan, M.C., of Guilsborough (Northants) and Lavington (Sussex) is one of the richest women in England. Happily married, with four children, she is the possessor of a fortune exceeding £4,000,000. Her father, Lord Woolavington, who began life without the proverbial penny to bless himself with, left £7,150,000 and of this great sum about £4,000,000 is inherited by her, part absolutely and part in trust. Mrs Macdonald-Buchanan has had wealth all her life, but she is quite unspoiled. She is interested in baby welfare, and is a keen follower of hounds, but is not interested in society. She knows the name of every tehant on the estate in Sussex, which has now become her responsibility and her generosity is well known. She is not, however, the richest woman in England. Lady Yule, who inherited £9,000,000 from her husband, Sir David Yule, the Indian merchant, has that distinction. Lady Houston, who is second on the list, is said to be “worth” about £6,000,000.
