ISSUE OF PROSPECTUS

ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. CHARGE AGAINST McARTHUR (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 9.20 p.m.) Sydney, October 18. When J. W. S. McArthur appeared in the Police Court to-day, the police asked for a further remand. McArthur’s counsel strongly objected. He said McArthur was being done a grave injustice by the police. He asked whether the original warrant had really existed in New Zealand at the time McArthur was detained in Sydney on a provisional warrant. The police said that a detective left New Zealand by the Maunganui on Tuesday with the original warrant. McArthur was remanded till October 25, bail being renewed.

John William Shaw McArthur, aged 52, company director, appeared at the Central Court, Sydney, on October 4, on a provisional warrant alleging the issue of a false prospectus in New Zealand. When the police asked for an adjournment McArthur’s solicitor, Dr. F. Louat, said it was a political stunt on the part of the Government of New Zealand. There was nothing new in the prospectus, which was two and ahalf years old. The whole of the affairs of the company, Dr. Louat explained, were investigated 14 months ago by five Governments. There was a complete answer to the allegation, and every word in the prospectus was literally true.
