MATAURA FACTORY ANNUAL MEETING 4 (From Our Correspondent.) The annual meeting of shareholders of the Mataura Dairy Factory was held on Wednesday afternoon, Mr A. Stevenson, chairman of directors, presiding over an attendance of about fifty. Before proceeding with the business Mr Stevenson made reference to the death of Mr John Taylor who had been a supplier for many years. All present stood in silence. In moving the adoption of the annual report (already published) and balancesheet the chairman explained several items of expenditure. The motion was seconded by Mr W. J. Irwin and carried unanimously. The secretary explained that the amount of milk received during last season was 22,000,0001 b, and not 2,000,0001 b as shown on the printed balancesheet. At the request of the chairman, the secretary (Mr C. H. Hargest) gave some information which proved of interest to those present. Manufacturing costs on butterfat had risen to 2.937 d per lb, against 2.734 d per lb last season. The average price received for cheese this season was 4.908 d per lb. As a result of the reduction in intakes during the season a sum of £2802 3/8 less than last year’s amount was made available to suppliers, while only about three tons of cheese were sold locally. The election of three directors resulted in Messrs R. A. Dickie, John McDonald and W. Robertson being declared elected. Mr R. S. Green was reelected auditor.

A long discussion took place in reference to the question of dry shareholders, the chairman saying that the directors would like some indication of the suppliers’ attitude on the matter. On the motion of Mr A. H. Cockburn it was resolved: “That it be a recommendation to the directors to purchase as many dry shares as possible, so that they may be allocated as they thought fit.” The chairman announced that owing to continued ill-health Mr T. McDonald had advised his intention of not seeking re-election to the directorate. Mr McDonald had had 31 years’ continuous service and throughout this long period had given great attention to the affairs of the company. The following resolution was carried: “This 47th annual general meeting of members of the Mataura Dairy Factory Co., Ltd., wishes to place on record its warm appreciation of the faithful and diligent service rendered to the company by Mr Thomas McDonald during his term of 31 years as a director and extend to him its sincere hopes for his recovery to normal health.” Subsequently Mr John Dunlop, a member of the Dairy Control Board, addressed the meeting on dairy control matters.
