TOKANUI NOTES

SALE OF WORK. (From Our Correspondent.) The recently formed Ladies’ Guild at Quarry Hills held a very successful sale of work last week in the Public Hall at Quarry Hills. The stalls were well laden with articles. The sale was officially opened by Mr J. T. Gardiner, who congratulated the ladies upon their splendid display. During the evening several competitions were held the winners being:—Boys’ candle lighting, A. Raines; ladies’ candle lighting, Mrs J. Mainland; men’s candle lighting, Mr J. T. Gardiner; Peas in bottle, Messrs Woods and R. Lamb; Pantry Competition, Mrs W. McWilliam 1 Misses N. Urquhart, O’Brien and Jennings 2 eq; Bed Making, Mr F. A. Hughes 1, J. Lamb 2; String in Bottle, Mr A. Shankland 1; Shooting Competition No. 1, Mr W. Buckingham 1, Mr J. Mainland 2; No. 2., Mr W. Birse 1, Mr C. Lamb 2; Ladies’ Shooting, Mrs J. G. MacDonald. The stallholders were as follows: Produce, Mrs J. G. MacDonald, Mrs A. Hanson: Fancy, Mrs J. Ross and Miss L. McManus; Sweets, Mrs W. Birse; Fish Pond, Mrs T. A. Buckingham and Miss Mainland; Shooting, Mr J. G. MacDonald; Competitions, Messrs J. Lamb and J. Mainland.

At the conclusion of the sale, Mr Gardiner thanked those present for their splendid patronage and said that the parish funds would benefit by a substantial sum.
