TE TUA NOTES
FLAG 500. (From Our Correspondent.) The last but one of the series of flag 500 evenings in aid of the basketball club was held in the school on Monday evening. There was a good attendance and the games were keenly, contested. Winners for the evening were Mesdames Donnell, O’Donnell and Reynolds. At the conclusion of cards a party was held. Novelty dances and games were enjoyed. Mr G. Porter was master of ceremonies, and Miss G. Weir and Mr P. Knowler were musicians. A meeting was held in the school on Thursday evening for the purpose of forming a tennis club. There were 21 present and the following officebearers were appointed: Patron, Mr D. McKay; president, Mr G. Porter; secretary and treasurer, Miss G. Weir; vice-presidents, Mrs S. McKenzie, Misses A. McKay, P. Horrell, Messrs R. Knowler, H. Mitchell and J. Geisig; committee, Misses B. Welsh, A. Horrell, M. McKerchar, Messrs A. Evans and W. Alderson. It was decided that the subscription for the first year should be 5/- per member and that the opening day should be Saturday, September 21. The opening is to take the form of a knock-out tournament. Mr G. Porter was appointed handicapper. Many farmers are experiencing sickness amongst the ewes and quite a number of deaths have been reported in local flocks. Mr Anderson, Invercargill, was the guest of Mr and Mrs S. McKenzie for a few days. Mr and Mrs D. McKay motored to Waikaka where they will spend a week visiting relatives. Miss Ann Mitchell, Invercargill, is the guest of Mrs B. C. Horrell. Miss D. Evans, Ohai, was the guest of Mrs B. C. Horrell for the week-end. Mr and Mrs H. Knowler and Miss Dorrie Knowler spent a few days in Invercargill during the week-
