QUEEN CARNIVAL
GORE SPORTS BODIES. OFFICIAL OPENING. The combined Gore sports bodies queen carnival commenced yesterday afternoon in conjunction with the official openings of the Gore and Citizens tennis clubs at the Gore courts. Various competitions were kept going throughout the afternoon, but no doubt owing to the changeable nature of the weather there were not as many present as expected. The Gore Municipal Band was in attendance and played several selections which were greatly appreciated by all present. Mr D. Little, president of the Gore Tennis Club, and Mr J. A. S. Aitken, president of the Citizens’ Tennis Club, officially declared their respective clubs open for the 1935-36 season. Tennis was not the order of the day, but several bright sets were witnessed. The standard of play was surprisingly good for so early in the season. Last evening a monster fancy dress ball was held in the Theatre Royal where the princesses were introduced by the chairman of the controlling executive, Mr D. Little.
