CANADIAN COMMUNISTS
NUMBER PLACED AT 40,000.
(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) Ottawa, August 17. The superintendent of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Mr F. J. Mead, states that there arc 40,000 Communists in Canada and 7000 are active. They were formerly financed by Moscow, but arc now' self-sustaining.
