SOUTHLAND LEAGUE FRIDAY’S CONFERENCE At the annual pre-ssssional conference between members of Parliament and local body representatives convened by the Southland League for Friday afternoon a number of remits will come up for discussion. Further remits may come to hand before the day of the conference. The Hon. Adam Hamilton, M.P., Mr James Hargest, M.P. for Invercargill, Mr P. A. de la Perrelle, M.P. for Awarua, Mr D. McDougall, M.P. for Mataura and the Hon. Thomas O’Byrne, M.L.C., are expected to be present. The remits to be considered are:— From the Invercargill City Council. —“That Hie necessary steps to taken to make provision for the introduction of the automatic telephone system in Invercargill.” “That further consideration be given to the position with regard to fines imposed by the Court on motorists found guilty of driving. a motor car whilst in a state of intoxication, so that provision may be made for the City Council to receive fines in all cases when the motorist concerned is arrested by the city traffic inspector, this being an offset towards the expense incurred by the Council in such matters. From the Bluff Harbour Board. “That the projected coastal survey of the East Coast of New Zealand commence in the region of Foveaux Strait. From the Lake County Council. “That the Glenorchy-Queenstown road project be pushed forward.” “That the tunnel on the Milford Sound road be named the Cockburn Tunnel in honour of our late councillor, who was the prime mover in the construction of the road.” “That the Government be asked to reinstate the kea beak subsidy of 5/a beak.” From the Stewart Island ■ County Council.—

“That an aeroplane or seaplane service be established between the main-; land and Stewart Island.” “That the Government be requested to place a light at the entrance to Pegasus Harbour.” “That a request be made to the Government for assistance towards making a bowling green in the township.” From the Lumsden Town Board.— “That attention again be devoted to the subject of river erosion.” From the Queenstown Borough Council.— “That the Southland League support the trustees' request, to the Government to alter the existing Act in connection with the Queenstown racecourse reserve at Frankton, and that the Government be asked to facilitate steps to make this area a registered aerodrome.” From the Wyndham Town Board.— “That the completion of the Wyndham- Mokorcta-Waikawa Valley Road be urged.” , , f < j> “That a definition be sought of road and ‘street’ under the Noxious Weeds Act, so as to determine who is responsible lor the clearance of goise and broom.” . From the Riverton and District Progressive League.— “That the authorities responsible be asked to effect improvements to prevent the river flooding over the road at the Iron Bridge, as this causes much inconvenience to travellers and business people.”
