NEW TYPE OF PLANE

LORD ROTIIERMERE'S GIFT.

ACCEPTANCE BY GOVERNMENT.

(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.40 p.m.) London, August 14. The Government has accepted a gift from Lord Rothermere of a new type of aeroplane which the Daily Mail named Britain I. It was specially constructed by the Bristol Aeroplane Company at Lord Rothermere’s expense. It has two Bristol Mercury engines of 645 horsepower each and will fly at 260 miles an hour, carrying eight passengers. Its cruising speed is 230 miles an hour, at which speed it has a range of 750 miles. Prolonged tests satisfied the Air Ministry and the Royal Air Force of the machine's suitability for military purposes.
