(Rec. 7.40 p.m.) London, August 13. “Modern life is replete with opportunities to escape, from chewing gum to morphia and from dancing to ocean cruises, but real health demands that the individual will hot be impelled to constantly seek distraction,” said Dr H. Crichton-Miller, honorary director of the Institute of Medical Psychology, at the education conference at Oxford at which 50 nations are represented. Dr Crichton-Miller argued that the tragepy of the present situation lay in the fact that escape from reality was valued as freedom. Miss Ishbel MacDonald said if we could produce a generation of grandfathers and grandmothers who did not creak with rheumatism we should have achieved something.
