MINISTERIAL. The Hon. S. G. Smith (Minister of Education and Minister of Employment) is expected to arrive by car from Timaru to-day. He will give a public address in Smith’s Hall on Thursday evening dealing with the Government’s policy in recent years. On Friday morning a visit will be paid to Winton, and later in the day he will proceed to Gore and Balclutha. • Messrs W. D. Brown (Chicago, U.S.A.) 1 , A. B. Armour (Dunedin) and S. Jacobs (Dunedin) are at the Grand Hotel. Mr W. E. Greatrex, an English business man who has been spending a few days in Invercargill, returned to the north by the express yesterday afternoon. Messrs J. Green (Auckland), J. Thompson (Wellington), D. Gunn (Dunedin), M. Le Cren (Dunedin) and D. Lucas (Dunedin) are at the Club Hotel. After a lengthy period of service Mr John Brown, auctioneer for the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Ltd., Gore, has tendered his resignation. Mr A. E. Timpany, agent and auctioneer for the company at Otautau, has been appointed as Mr Brown’s successor. The Auckland Hospital Board appointed Mr F. P. Furkert senior surgical officer at the Auckland Hospital and Dr R. F. Wilson senior medical officer. Both are New Zealanders at present holding positions in hospitals in England, states a Press Association message from Auckland. Advice has been received of the death in England aftei - an illness of two months of Dr W. G. Fern, Ph.D., D.Sc., of the Fern Business Institute. Dr Fern recently toured New Zealand, speaking in every main centre to large audiences, and he also visited many of the main provincial towns, states a Wellington Press Association message.
