BLUFF HARBOUR

WORKS IN PROGRESS. REPLY TO CRITICISM. “The board was already well aware c." all the points brought up in the letter,” said Mr W. A. Ott, chairman of the Bluff Harbour Board, when approached yesterday by a reporter in connection with the letter of criticism bj' “Southlander” published in. the Southland Times yesterday morning. “The public of Southland can rest assured that the Harbour Board is making the best use of its resources,” added Mr Ott. “Whatever is done in the future, the port must of necessity maintain its present wharves in a state of efficiency, and this is being attended to.

“I do not propose to detail again the harbour works already set out in your article of Tuesday morning, because it indicates fully how we are keeping up with present requirements. “Had the correspondent read that article carefully he would have seen that the board’s activities are not ‘mainly confined to the beautifying of Bluff hill.’ Thousands of pounds have been spent even during the last year to facilitate the movement of shipping.”
