Spring

—Late Entry.— j Against the dusky shade of dawn A nodding in the gentle breeze, Three daffodils beneath the trees Announce sweet spring’s first misty morn. A blackbird soft, deep-throated sings, While violets scatter cheerful smiles; About the trunk in driven piles. Anenomes in clustered rings Smile forth upon the happy world Alive and gay with living fiow’rs Awake to scent the sunlit hours Awake! with all their leaves unfurl’d. Clematis, star like, pure and white As driven snow upon the drive, Awake and glad to be alive, Shine forth in e’er increasing light. And when at noon the sun’s full glare Upon the bells whose drowsy heads : Stand forth against their earthern beds, 1 Shines down, he finds that Spring is here. ■ _4 marks to Cousin Naomi Stirling (11), 55 Filleul Street.
