HARD UP BALL. (From Our Correspondent.) The Basketball Club held a most successful hard-up ball in the local hall on Thursday night. The hall was suitably decorated and music was supplied by the Syncopators’ Orchestra. Prizes for the best costumes were won by Miss G. Lindsay and Mr G. Strang. Batt, Buxton, Campbell, Walker, Gibb (2), Kidd, McDougall, Trail, Stalker (Riverton), McDonald, Thompson (Otahuti), Smith (Taramoa), J. Swann, A. Robertson (Wrights Bush); Messrs Hayes (2), McKenzie, Evans, Parker, Anderson, Strang (2), Rance (4), Buchanan, Kidd, Fraser, Donaldson, Muirhead, Hamilton, Campbell, McLean, Ronald, Miller, Turnbull, Saxton, Hillis (2) (Thornbury), Milne, Bickley (2) (Otaitai Bush), Lindsay, Meehan, Swann, Cavanagh (Wrights Bush), Amos, Nunn (Taramoa). Basketball. With the installation of electric light on the courts, basketball has become very popular among the young people. There are large numbers attending the practices and the weather has been of the best for most practices. Two ladies’ teams and one men’s team attended the tournament held at Riverton. School Matches. The local school Rugby and basketball teams travelled to Thornbury to play the annual matches with the Thornbury teams. Waimatuku proved superior in both matches, winning the basketball by 12 to 1 and the football by 24 to 5. Personal. Mr and Mrs A. Lindsay’ have returned from a motoring tour of the South Island. Mrs W. Pinckney and Mrs B. Unwin have returned to Glenaray after visiting Mr and Miss Pinckney. Mrs C. Brown has returned from a holiday in Invercargill. Mr and Mrs A. Anderson, accompanied by Miss Sybil Anderson, are holidaying in the North Island. Mr M. Anderson left on Friday for Wellington.
