The motor vessel Foxton grounded on the bar in the lower reaches of the Waimakariri river on Thursday evening. Shortly before 5 p.m., in making the sharp turn up the river towards Kairaki, the vessel stuck. A tow rope was made fast to the launch Rata, but as the Foxton swung off into deep water the rope was not thrown off in time and the two occupants of the launch, Messrs G. Phillips and M. Aspinall, were struck and fell into the river. Mr Aspinall reached the Foxton and Mr Phillips swam into shallow water, neither of them being hurt. The delay lost 20 minutes, and the Foxton finally reached Kaiapoi shortly after 6 p.m.
