Frosts At Gore. Sharp frosts were experienced at Gore on Sunday and yesterday, 10 degrees being recorded on Sunday and 14 degrees yesterday. o—O—o Competition Winners. Tire winners of the sheep-guessing competition at the Gore Poultry Club’s show were S. C. Kidd (Clifden) and S. G. Trusler (Gore), both of whom had the correct weight, o—-O —o Basketball. An Eastern District representative basketball team travelled to Balclutha on Saturday and defeated South Otago by 14 goals to 11. The game was played in brilliant sunshine and the standard of play was high. o—O—o Fire at East Gore. The Gore Fire Brigade received a call to a fire at the residence of Mrs A. Hoffman, Waverley Street, East Gore, yesterday afternoon. The flames which commenced in the kitchen were quickly extinguished by the brigade. There was little damage done. o—O—o Mining Matter. At a sitting of the Waikaia Warden’s Court at Gore yesterday before Mr V 7. H. Freeman, S.M., an application by Charles Edwin Soper and Morgan Slater for an ordinary prospecting license for 50 acres at Winding Creek, Wendon Survey District, was granted subject to the filing of a declaration, o —O—o Fire at Freshford. The house of Mr and Mrs John McDonald, Freshford, was destroyed by fire on Saturday. It is believed that the fire commenced in the kitchen. Mrs McDonald called to a neighbour, and both removed Mr McDonald, who is an invalid. Several neighbours quickly came to the scene pnd some bedding was saved. The building, which was insured, was razed to the ground. The furniture was also insured.
