WOMEN’S DIVISION
RIVERTON BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Riverton branch of the W.D.F.U. was held in More's Hall on Tuesday, July 6, Mis Hopcroft presiding over a good attendance of members. Miss Willis gave a splendid address on the Girls’ Education Week, and thanked the members for appointing Miss McKenzie and her as delegates. The president made the presentation of a small gift, on behalf of the members, to Misss Alice Willis wishing her every happiness for the future. The recipient suitably replied. It was decided to forward a donation to the Crippled Children’s Fund. A large number of parcels containing children’s garments, to be forwarded to the Welfare Society, were handed in by members. Mrs Rance, of Waimatuku gave a most interesting demonstration on canework, and was subsequently accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The “Best Bloom” competition resulted as follows: Mrs Patrick 1, Mrs Helm and Miss A. Willis equal 2, Mrs Willis and Miss Wilkinson equal 3. SEAWARD DOWNS BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Seaward Downs Women’s Division was held in the hall on July 10. Mrs Arnott, president, presided. The best bloom competition was won by Mrs R. G. Weir, Mrs J. Dunlop being second and Mrs J. Baxter third. A “Bring and Buy” sale was then held to help to raise funds for a superannuation scheme for the women church workers of New Zealand. Mr Adamson then gave an interesting demonstration on the sewing machine and instructions on using the attachments, several of which were new to members. Mrs Arnott thanked Mr Adamson, also Mr Grey for coming to the meeting and giving the instructive demonstration which was appreciated by all. Afternoon tea was then handed round. •
