CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

GORE BODY MEETS. The quarterly meeting of the Gore Chamber of Commerce was held on Monday evening, the president, Mr E. C. Smith, presiding over the following members. Messrs H. E. Bacon, C. R. Wilkinson, A. C. Steel, H. W. Pascoe, A. B. Caverhill, R. Wallis, R. S. Green, G. Smith, A. A. Mac Gibbon, M. M. Simpson, O. J. Howells, J. Hunter and A. H. Aitken (secretary). Correspondence was received from the Associated Chambers of Commerce with reference to telegraph charges, inviting the chamber to. express its opinion. After a short discussion it was decided to reaffirm the previous decision urging a reversion to the former flat rate scale.

The meeting discussed the suggested change of the name of the main street, which was raised by Mr R. S. Green, who said that personally he felt that the name Main, for Gore’s principal street was not in keeping with the town. A number of members of the chamber were business men in Main street, and he would like their views expressed on the matter.

After a'brief discussion during the course of which several names were suggested, the motion was lost.

Mr E. C. Smith then gave an interesting and educative talk on a tour of the East.
