GORE BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS The fortnightly meeting of the Gore Borough Council was held last evening when there were present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr A. T. Newman) and Councillors J. A. Wright, W, K. Hamilton, J. A. Baldey, R. L. Reid, T. Sim, N. Robson, F. S. Graham, A. McLachlan, G. C. Hamilton, A. H. W. Aitken and W. T. Trusler. The chairman of the Otago and Southland Division of the New Zealand branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign (Sir Louis Barnett) appealed for a donation to the King’s Jubilee Gift Fund. The request was referred to the Finance Committee for the draft ing of a list of donations for the current year. The Gore Men’s Hockey Club re quested the council to proceed with the improvement of Block A for use as a hockey ground. The letter was referred to the Works Committee for a report. Seventeen residents of the south side of Irving street requested the council for a concrete footpath on the south side of the street. Five residents of Lock street also signed the petition, which was referred to the Works Committee. Works Committee. The following recommendations of the Works Committee were adopted:— Tenders for cleaning out Hamilton street and Lawrence street ditches: Eight tenders were received for this work and it was decided to accept that from R. McCallum at £4 10/-. Piping and filling in Hamilton street ditch: It was decided to recommend that the portion of the ditch from Maitland street to Lawrence street be completed this year.' Galvanized iron fence at corner ot Irk and Fairfield streets: It was decided to recommend that provided portion ot the cdrner is cut away, a galvanized iron fence be erected and painted green as suggested by the gardener. Finance Committee. The following recommendations of the Finance Committee were adopted:— New Well.—lt was decided that the engineer be instructed to carry out the sinking of a new well. Alterations to Town Hall. —The plans for alterations of Town Hall offices were gone into, and it was decided to recommend to the council that the sketch plan prepared by Mr Kirby be approved.
