CHINESE REDS
SETBACK IN KWEICHOW ACTIVITY IN ANOTHER REGION BIG COMMUNIST ARMY (United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) Shanghai, April 22. Although considerable success attended the anti-Communist drive in the province of Kweichow, directed by General Chiang Kai-shek, which resulted in the smashing of groups of Reds and scattering them towards Szechwan, much anxiety is felt whether the defeated hordes are fleeing for the purpose of joining the large Communist army operating in the vicinity of Chengtu, where three special aeroplanes had been evacuating foreigners, especially missionaries. Bandits are swarming everywhere in this region and Chinese are quitting Chengtu hurriedly by every available steamer and also by river craft. _ It is expected that General Chiang Kai-shek will next personally direct the. antiRed campaign in Szechwan, again relying on aerial attacks.
